Map of Social Networks

A map of the world, showing the most popular social networks by country. Most of the the colors used look the same for the color blind. As color is the only method of connecting the networks to the countries, this map is unusable for the color blind.

The blogpost also features an interactive version of the map. This version of the map uses mouse-over hints to connect the data to the chart. Color blind can now rely on something other than color, making this version more usable for them.

  • While it is true that this map fails to meet accessibility needs for many colour blind users, it is a bit of a sweeping statement to say it is unusable for the colour blind or that most of the colours look the same. I have a form of colour blindness but I don't have difficulty distinguishing the colours in this map. Again, I am not saying it is right as it is, just that the statements are a bit too generic. There are a number of different types of colour blindness.
